essential work skills whilst you are earning a wage.
The Level 5 Diploma in Care Leadership and Management is an occupational
qualification for learners who work in Adult Care Settings. Developed by Skills
for Care based on employer and CQC requirements the qualification provides
different pathways reflecting the diversity of roles and settings across the
This qualification is appropriate for care managers, registered managers,
deputy managers, unit managers or service managers in residential, day care,
domiciliary care and supported living. A role in social care can mean you
working in voluntary, local authorities, private and independent social care
Qualifications in the Programme
The Apprenticeship at Level 5 consists of 3 qualifications:
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care
- Functional Skills English Level 2
- Functional Skills Maths Level 2
We will develop an individual learning plan based on your skills, experience
and current role. Any prior certificated learning would be identified. With your
employer we will identify paid off the job learning opportunities, minimum 20%.
This will include mentoring, shadowing, independent research and learning, e
learning and coaching. Most learners complete the apprenticeship in12 months.
The assessor will meet with the learner a minimum of every 4 weeks to deliver
coaching and learning. Clear plans and next steps will be agreed for skill and
knowledge development and feedback given on achievement. Reflective
practice, professional discussions, observation of practice, employer testimony
will be used to ensure learning. Learners will have to do written work
particularly to demonstrate knowledge. For the Diploma the learners is given
free access to online learning using Smartscreen, a City & Guilds approved
Structure of Qualifications:
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care is the occupational
competence qualification developed by Skills for Care and is based on the input
from employers. The qualification provides different pathways reflecting the
diversity of roles and settings across the sector.
Apprentices must be employed in a job appropriate to the framework and they must be able to undertake the full range of duties confidently and competently to the standard set by the sector.

- Adults Residential Management
- Adults Management
- Adults Advanced Practice
To complete the Diploma within the apprenticeship learners have to achieve 90 credits from a combination of mandatory and optional units.
